The Three Boxes
This book is based on an element of the Merchant of Venice. It concerns the moralistic choice between three different caskets, one made of gold, one silver, and the last, dull lead.
In order to win the hand of the beautiful Portia, three suitors, the comical Prince of Morocco, the Prince of Aragon and the handsome Bassanio, all must seek to choose the box containing a portrait of the young girl in order to claim that they are her most suitable future husband.
The moral generally is: ‘All that Glitters is not Gold”, ‘glisters’ in the original Shakespeare text. This is the first in the series of Tales of Shakespuss.
